# About

## The Mission

Onchain trading has advanced considerably, yet it remains a distant approximation of the centralized exchanges it aims to replace. Venues that fully pursue decentralization surrender the speed that professional markets require; those that pursue speed quietly centralize the parts that matter most, from matching to sequencing to settlement, until the guarantees they advertise no longer hold.

A system is only as decentralized as its most centralized component, and by that measure today's decentralized exchanges are decentralized in name and centralized in practice. The consequence is unambiguous: professional traders stay off, unwilling to accept the latency, opaque execution, and trust assumptions that no venue handling capital at scale can justify.

## Calabi

Calabi is the result of that first-principles thinking. It is an L1 blockchain engineered around the demands of professional trading, with every part of the stack verifiable onchain. The L1 currently sustains block times between **25-40ms** across regional clusters of validating nodes, with zero privileged parties anywhere in that path.

Existing venues have approached this problem with some variation of offchain matching paired with onchain settlement, or offchain execution secured by zero-knowledge proofs. Each concedes something we consider essential. We believe that a fully onchain design, uncompromised on speed, permissionlessness, verifiablity, and censorship resistance is the correct balance to bring the full breadth of internet capital markets onchain.

*Maybe, just maybe, you can have your cake, and eat it too.*
